Thornwood Springs is a haven for traditional fly anglers who want to see crystal clear spring fed water, producing good tasting fish, amazing fly life and wildlife, abundant with many rare and unusual visitors and fauna.
All hatches of every insect available, even mayfly hatches can be abundant, with the land being pesticide free for many decades. A fantastic buzzer water and dry fly matching can be challenging on days as the fish here are such natural feeders!
So today’s discerning fly angler can pursue their target of a first fish, a brown trout, rainbow, blue and tiger trout stocked with fish so far up to 18lbs put in, but grown on well in excess of 20lb+.
Our lakes are also home to a large number of golden rudd, which exceed 4lbs and are also fun on the fly in summer! We also have some special fish being grown and upon reaching their target weight of 22lbs will be stocked in early spring – watch this space!!
We believe Thornwood is a paradise for for all levels of angler, catering for all methods and styles of fly fishing, tenkara included, in an idyllic setting next to the forest with rolling countryside scenes and amazing sunsets.
